Benefits
The Eastern Extension offers a number of benefits:
- It will ensure the long-term viability of the Dorket Head Brick Factory by providing an additional nine years of clay for the production of bricks and an overall reserve of 22 years
- It will secure 56 jobs at Dorket Head Brick Factory and four jobs within the landfill operations
- It will minimise the transportation of clay by road, using supplies that are adjacent to the existing quarry by using the existing conveyor rather than sites further afield, which would require importation by road
- It will promote the proper provision and phasing of clay reserves by ensuring the maximum recovery of clay reserves next to the existing quarry
- It will restore the site predominantly to grassland and advanced planting, including 600 metres of tree-lined footpaths and over 800 metres of tree and hedge planting around the perimeter of the site and in the landscaping field
- Provide a final disposal point for waste that cannot be otherwise recycled or recovered
- It will contribute to the existing recovery of landfill gas and production of green electricity - the Dorket Head site currently produces enough electricity to power around 3,000 homes
- It will provide appropriate protection to sensitive areas
