Welcome
Ibstock and Waste Recycling Group (WRG) are proposing to extend the quarry serving the Dorket Head Brick Factory, with restoration of the site by landfill. The Dorket Head Brick Factory is one of the few remaining major employers in the Arnold area, employing 56 people and producing high-quality facing bricks for use in the construction industry.
Clay extraction and brick making has been taking place at Dorket Head for over 175 years. The brick factory is now the only operating brickworks in the south of the county and is capable of producing up to 83 million bricks per year.
Continuing investment and development of the factory means it is well placed to meet house building demands both locally and nationally. Reserves of clay at the brickworks are estimated to be only enough for a further 13 years of production. Therefore, it is important to identify further reserves.
The proposed Eastern Extension to the present clay workings would increase the stock of reserves by a further nine years and will utilise land immediately next to the existing quarry. Without the Eastern Extension, clay would need to be imported by road from further afield in order for the brickworks to remain in production.
